Find Yourself!!!
Wow, here I am at 52 years old, still trying to find myself? Heck Yes, because I have not stopped living, dreaming , talking or breathing.
I am now a new blogger, working on my radio show and speaking to crowds about being 50plus. My children laugh at me because I am always telling people how old I am. They think it's because I'm trying to get compliments; and, well... they are not entirely wrong. I will take them as they come, but most of all I want folks to know that it's OK to be 50plus. Let's just say, Being 50plus is a Plus...(corny, I know but work with me, I'm new at this).
FACT: Among the total population, there are more 50 year olds in America right now than any other single-age group. If you will notice, the entire world revolves around The 50 Plus Club! Yes, I call it a club and membership has its benefits.
Now that you are 50plus, do you find that you have the resources that you didn't have when you were younger and raising children? How about time? Is there more time in your day? Here is the BIG ONE...Isn't it easier to say NO these days? Well some of us are still working on that one. Especially when the grandchildren are involved (smile). They get me every time. Remember, everyone is striving to get where we are. It beats the alternative right? So live it up... Let's be proud to be part of this 50plus club.
As many of you may know, I run a Senior Center in the Central Area of Seattle, Washington. My life is forever changed because I get to see the most vivacious, active wonderful people everyday. My world, my life and my view is different and I want to share it with those of you who are not as fortunate to be around so many people of one generation at one time. My Seniors are showing me how to live, and I love it! But to be honest, I also see how I don't want to live. Some of my folks have not taken very good care of themselves, so I have that perspective as well. Thank God we can prevent some things in our lives by watching others. I will share those lessons as well.
When I turned 50, I decided I was going to do somethings I had never done before. So I gave myself a huge party. Why not? Hey, If you don't know what to do with yourself, start with a party! Oh, did I mention I got my first tattoo? When I turned 51, I decided to hike a snowy, icy mountain in Oregon with my best friend Marcee. This perhaps was not so bright in the month of February, but once I started I couldn't turn around. I actually wrote about it, published an article in a couple publications. Now at 52, I have a blog and an upcoming radio show. I also learned a new dance called Chicago Style Steppin', which is a blog in itself, so I will share that later (smile). Oh, I am also in the gym, trying to get it together because a couple of my goals require that I am in better shape and drop a few pounds. I have a long way to go, but I am starting here.
So what are your goals for the next phase of your life? Do you have a dream to travel the world? Or even just travel up the coast? How about learn a new skill? Start your dream business? Ride a motorcycle? Become a wine connoisseur? The sky is the limit. As I mentioned in my former article, this is not a Bucket list. It's a Pick up list. So let's pick up our lives and do our own thing! These are not things to do before you die; they are things you want to do in order to live your best life.
The bottom line is this... It's my turn! It's Your Turn! It's OUR TURN! Life is just beginning so it's time to Live It Up!
